Welcome to Brian's website!

This site was created to keep family and friends informed about the rehabilitation progress of Brian Herbst.

You may or may not already know Brian's story:

It was early morning on April 12, 2011.  Brian's college roommate heard Brian babbling in his sleep.  Unable to wake him, Brian's roommate immediately called 911.  Brian was rushed to McDonough Hospital in Macomb, where he seized and suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke.

Brian was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, where they were able to save his life.  He underwent a second critical brain surgery on April 28th in order to remove the AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation), a rare congenital abnormality.  Brian will require extensive rehabilitation, the length of which is uncertain.

Update: Brian was able to come home on June 3rd!!!  He is now attending outpatient therapy, and getting stronger every week!  :) :) :)

Brian is making AMAZING progress, and your thoughts, prayers, and generosity are appreciated more than you know!!!

Please take a moment to sign Brian's Guestbook page so he can read your comments and well-wishes as he recovers!

Gooooo Brian!

Brian continues to make improvements, and was able to slightly raise his leg while seated.  His voice is also returning, with words to follow.  Brian's tentative release date is June 3rd, and he will then be able to continue his therapy sessions on an outpatient basis!

Brian Makes Huge Strides (Literally!)

During his PT session on May 11th, Brian walked 72 feet with the assistance of a side walker and his physical therapist!  His speech therapy must also be working, since he was able to recite the days of the week perfectly!  GO BRIAN!!!  :) :) :)
